All new Black Label

It’s been many months of cloak and daggers and all that, but finally it’s here!  We’ve completely re-worked Black Label from the ground up.

Over the past years 5 Senses Coffee has been working tirelessly on where they source their beans, and on building relationships with the growers and international bean merchants to strengthen their single origin offerings.  Q grader and Cup of Excellence judge, Jen Murray has been travelling to all corners of the globe to ensure that the coffees being stocked are fresh, and of the highest quality.

Now over the course of the year, we make small changes to our house blend (Code named, Black Label) depending on what single origins are available and at their peak.  This is done to ensure a certain consistency of the profile of the blend and most importantly, to ensure it’s meeting the flavour needs of our customers.

Secretly however, we’ve been working on a second blend.  Actually we’ve been working on around 4.  The idea of this blend was that we abandoned our previous bias to the existing Black Label, and worked on creating what we felt was honestly just a damn amazing coffee – both with and without milk.

For these blends we wanted to ensure that we were only using the very best beans available so all the coffees were cupped and scored, and only the top coffees were allowed to be used in the blends.  Then when we felt all four blends were tasting extra special, we put them against Black Label, blindly and independently to see what came out on top.

After many (many!) blind trials “Blend 6.75″ was the standout winner.  So now we’d love to present to you the brand new “Black Label”, completely reworked from the ground up using the most exciting coffees we could get our hands on;

Blend 6.75 (aka, the new and drastically improved “Black Label”)

40% Brazil – Minas Gerais Santo Antonio Estates

40% Costa Rica – Santa Maria de Doto, Co Op Dota

20% Ethiopian Yirgacheffe – gr II c/o Atlas Coffee Mechants.

Black this coffee has awesome fruits, great sweetness and complexity but with a real deep senses of balance.

With milk this blend resembles a melted down snickers bar.  Heaps of caramal, nuts and super sweet milk chocolate.

We really couldn’t be happier serving this to you
