Bar 9 is Adelaide’s preeminent destination for brewed coffee.  We take a great deal of pride in providing you with the finest selection of manual brewing methods that showcase coffee in a new and exciting light.  Whether you’re familiar with lighter bodied brewing styles and looking for somewhere to relax and enjoy your golden elixir, or, if you are new to this side of coffee and wanting to expand your context of how we can celebrate this glorious bean and look at different ways of enjoying it you’ll find something interesting at the brew bar.

All our coffees are brewed out in front of you and we encourage your interactions with the barista as the story behind the bean is just as important as the way in which it’s brewed. Come in with an open mind and we’re sure you’ll enjoy the experience.

Siphon is a great way to experience some of our ultra premium coffee’s. Specifically roasted much lighter, this allows us to capture more of the natural essence of the bean and deliver it in a very different medium to espresso based coffee.

Very tea-like in it’s consistency, the siphon brewer naturally harnesses a much sweeter brew, with a much broader spectrum of very defined flavours. Best to enjoy when you have some extra time to really sit down and take in the siphon. Pour-over is such a user-friendly way to differentiate between multiple brews of coffee using different origins of beans. The pour-over is quick and convenient and allows little room for error. Easy to repeat at home this is a great way to get an overall picture of what a particular origin or micro-lot of coffee has to offer, with slightly more body than with siphon.
V60, Melitta Cone and Abid Clever Dripper are our pour-over’s of choice so be sure to specify if there’s a particular pour over you would like used. Sometimes referred to as a Kyoto Dripper, this very impressive looking device drops one drop of icy cold water onto a bed of coffee. This water then slowly creeps it’s way through the bed of coffee collecting exciting flavour oils along the way. It then passes through a cloth filter and into your cup. This process takes between four and eight hours to deliver an icy cold brew that’s served as a very short, clean and refreshing coffee that’s very very low in acid.
The flavour is very unique and almost tastes alcoholic. Perfect on a hot day, or if you’re feeling like breaking up your usual latte-a-day routine. On top of our regular brewing methods we also love to showcase various other brewers from time to time. Some examples include Turkish/Greek Brewed coffee, aeropress, handpresso, viet drip, presso, atomic coffee pot, stove top and many more.
If there’s something specifically that you’d like us to brew please feel free to ask. If we’re not too busy we’d be more than happy to do what we can to accommodate.
